BEACH, DUNE, AND MARITIME FOREST
DISL Excursion
Aquarium Excursion - Excursion
There’s so much more to a barrier island than just sand and water. On this guided walk, you’ll explore a whole series of connected habitats, from the shady maritime forest to the windswept dunes and out onto the open beach. Along the way, we’ll talk about the plants that Indigenous people and early settlers relied on, how dunes protect the island, and why these systems matter. Keep your eyes open for coastal wildlife too—osprey overhead, crabs in the sand, and even dolphins offshore if we’re lucky. This experience includes about a one-mile walk over changing terrain, from packed trails to soft sand, so come ready to explore!
